The History and Legacy of MediTek Stairlifts (1990–Present)

MediTek Stairlifts was founded in the early 1990s in the North East of England, where a small team of specialist engineers developed what became one of the UK’s most respected straight‑rail stairlift platforms. Over the following decades, MediTek produced just under 200,000 stairlifts worldwide, supplying a broad dealer network across Europe, North America, and Australia.

In 2019, the MediTek brand was acquired by Royal Otolift Stairlifts, the largest stairlift manufacturer in the Netherlands. MediTek’s engineering became the foundation for the Otolift Line product, and its history is now part of Otolift’s official timeline at Otolift’s corporate history page. The U.S. market was not included in this transition, leaving many American owners still searching for parts and support.

Many European stairlifts — while excellent in their home markets — do not always adapt well to U.S. homes due to differences in staircase width, load‑bearing structure, electrical standards, and safety expectations. These differences highlighted the need for a purpose‑built American design.

Avalon Stairlifts USA continues the MediTek legacy with a clean‑sheet U.S. design approach, ensuring compatibility with American building standards while preserving the simplicity and reliability that defined MediTek for more than 30 years.

If you found MediTek through Google Maps or an older online listing, please note that U.S. support is now provided by Avalon Stairlifts USA.
